Brenda Welburn is the Executive Director of the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE). She was the first African American women named to head a major national education organization in the United States. Ms. Welburn is an association manager and legislative professional with more than 33 years of experience in policy development and analysis in education and human service issues.

Ms. Welburn is the author of The American Tapestry: Educating a Nation, and has given workshops and presentations around the country and in several foreign nations on state education policy in the United States. She serves on several boards, task forces and commissions responsible for improving the health and welfare of children.
