WELCOME
Dear Educator:

The Teaching & Learning Celebration for 2008 may be behind us now, but from the emails and notes attendees have sent it's clear that its impact continues. Whether it's the school principal who has told us he's making his school a "Roots and Shoots" site as a result of Jane Goodall's talk, the New Jersey teacher who said she's never been prouder of her profession than during the presentation by Debbie Meier and Diane Ravitch, or the school board member who said he couldn't decide whether he was more excited by what he learned from Jean-Michel Cousteau or Majora Carter, we know that there was a lot of good learning going on for the more than 7,500 people who attended the two-day conference.

We also had many, many comments about the Opening Plenary — the video, the performance by Jearlyn Steele and the students from Edward R. Morrow School, and Jearlyn's talk. A video of that session — along with a number of others — is now available to you on this site. We make all of these resources available to you so that you can enjoy them again and share them with colleagues and friends, and to help us promote this conference which we hope to host every year.

You'll also notice that we are continuing the education blog — "The Lure of Learning." We'd be very pleased to have your comments about the Celebration, so don't be shy about sending them to us either as a response to entries already written or as new essays for others to consider.

Finally, please mark March 6-7, 2009 on your calendars so that you'll be with us for the next Teaching & Learning Celebration. The planning for that conference has begun, and if you have any ideas for speakers or workshops, please let us know. Our goal is to create the finest conference, in terms of both content and inspiration, available anywhere, and we welcome your input into how we can meet that goal. And on behalf of everyone at Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21, our sponsors and our partners, thank you for making Celebration '08 such a success.

Sincerely,

Ron Thorpe
